First Use
Release the metal strap holding the lid and open the jar. Push the switch to the ON position and close and seal the lid . There may be some residual power in the battery at this stage . Place either outside or on a window ledge so that the solar panel can gather ambient light to charge the internal rechargeable battery (included). The battery will not charge in false light e.g. Fluorescent light 5-6 hours charging will keep the lamp lit for up to 8 hours . As light is different at various times of the year charging times may vary.
Auto ON and OFF
There is a light sensor in the solar panel . When the switch is ON, the jar will sense the light and will turn on and off automatically at dusk and dawn.
When you don't want it to light up , to save energy , please open the lid and turn the switch 'OFF' . When you use it next time , please turn the switch 'ON' again.
Under certain types of light the sensor can sometimes not work properly e.g. under florescent lighting . The sensor is designed to work in natural lighting conditions.
How to Change the Battery
There is a rechargeable battery in the sun jar when you get it. This battery is an AA NI-CD and should only be replaced with a battery of the same type and specification . As with all rechargeable batteries their ability to hold a charge will diminish over time and is not a fault of the unit . This is indicated by a shorter operating time of the unit . And the different ways owners use them , may cause the life of battery life to shorten . When you find the lighting time shorter than usual, you can change the battery by yourself . How to change the battery : Open the jar lid , and take out the rubber seal. Turn off the switch
Take out the solar panel carefully. Remove the old battery from the holder noting which way the battery fits the terminals.
Now replace the battery with the new one making sure the terminals are the correct way round.
Place back in the jar turn on switch and reseal unit
Leave to charge for 6-8 hours.
Note:Take out the solar panel carefully and slowly , so as not to snap any of the wires off the unit.
Charging
Put the jar in sunshine , the jar will charge by itself . It does not matter whether the witch is ON or OFF , This does not affect the charging . Please Note : Don't put the jar in sunshine or outside for several days when the switch is in the OFF position , it will over-charge and affect the life of the battery.
In winter months when there is little sunlight £¬the battery can be removed and placed in a suitable battery charger and placed back in the unit when charged so you can continue to enjoy your Solar Jar all year round.
Please Note:
Place on a firm level surface.
Although the Jar is weatherproof it is advised that it is brought inside in Severe Weather conditions
Do Not Submerge in Water
If Glass is broken or cracked in any way please safely dispose of in a suitable container
Please note this item is not a Toy
When this product has reached the end of its useful life do not throw this product away with normal rubbish in your bin , please dispose of it as follows:
The Batteries and Solar panel must be detached form the Glass Jar prior to disposal and disposed of at your local WEEE approved/regulated recycling plant.
Depending on your local facilities the glass jar may also be able to be recycled.
